How MB Cleaning Squad started

MB Cleaning Squad was set up in 2018 by Maria B., who had spent several years working in facilities management for a property company in East London. During that time, she noticed that a lot of cleaning contractors were inconsistent — quality varied between visits, communication was poor, and clients often did not know what they were paying for.

The idea behind MB Cleaning Squad was simple: a cleaning service that was straightforward to deal with, honest about what it does and does not include, and consistent enough that clients could rely on it without having to check up constantly.

We started with a handful of residential clients in Hackney and have grown steadily since — taking on commercial bookings, end of tenancy work, and a small number of regular property management accounts. We have kept the team deliberately small to maintain the standard of work.

Reliability

We turn up when we say we will and complete what we have agreed. If something changes, we communicate it promptly.

Transparency

Quotes are clear, inclusions are agreed in advance, and we tell clients when something is outside the scope of a service.

Consistency

We work from a checklist agreed with each client. The standard should not change between visits, regardless of who carries out the clean.

Responsibility

We offer eco-friendly product options, carry full public liability insurance, and vet all team members before they work with clients.

2018

MB Cleaning Squad founded

Maria starts the business with three residential clients in Hackney. All work done solo, using personal equipment.

2019

First team member joins

James joins as a second cleaner, allowing the business to take on larger properties and additional bookings.

2020

Navigating COVID-19

Operations paused and then restarted with additional hygiene protocols. Introduce COVID-secure working procedures.

2021

Commercial bookings introduced

Start working with small offices in Shoreditch and Bethnal Green. Tom joins to handle operations and scheduling.

2022–2024

Steady growth and Priya joins

Priya joins the residential team. Client base grows steadily through word of mouth referrals and consistent quality.

2025

Website and online presence launched

Launch of the MB Cleaning Squad website to make it easier for new clients to find us and understand the services we offer.

Why consistency matters more than a one-off brilliant clean

One of the things we talk about a lot internally is the difference between a single impressive clean and a reliable standard over time. Many cleaning services can deliver a strong first visit. The challenge — and what clients actually need — is for the seventh visit to be as good as the first.

We achieve this by working from structured checklists agreed with each client at the start, and by keeping the same team on each account wherever possible. When a cleaner knows a property well, they notice when something is different, when an area needs extra attention, or when a problem has developed that the client might want to know about.

This is not complicated. It is the result of keeping our processes simple, communicating clearly, and hiring people who are willing to take the work seriously.

We do not claim to be extraordinary. We aim to be dependable — and we think that is actually more valuable to most people.
